A soap cutter can only work as well as the soap and the person using it.
If your cuts are coming out slightly crooked, it doesn't necessarily mean there is a problem with the cutter. There are a few simple things that can affect the way a soap loaf cuts, particularly when you're working with different recipes, temperatures, and curing stages.
 
Common Causes of Uneven Cuts
The cutting wire is not tight enough
The wire needs to be firm and properly tensioned before cutting. If it is loose, it can move or bow as it passes through the soap, particularly when the soap is firmer in some areas.
 
The soap is too soft or too hard
Timing can make a big difference. Soap that is too soft can drag on the wire, while very hard soap can require more pressure and cause the wire to deflect.
 
As a general guide, many cold process soaps are ready to cut around 24 to 48 hours after pouring, but every recipe is different. Look for a loaf that feels firm enough to cut cleanly without being rock hard.
 
Uneven pressure during the cut
Take your time and use a steady, even motion. Pushing harder on one side of the cutting arm can cause the wire to move away from a straight path.
 
The cutting arm is not being held firmly
